If it's not recognized as a joystick by X-plane when connected, just be sure to program the keypad using the software that came with it first, after identifying what key combos you would like to use. To confirm X-plane recognition, you can quickly look in the controller list under joysticks to see if it is found there by X-plane as its own device, which may make things potentially easier with the button assignment rigamarole. Easiest way to find out is to try the above steps. (your step 2)įrom what I can tell, your device should work with X-plane as a standard keyboard and not a game controller, but I could be wrong. If this works, you can quit X-plane and continue to use the combination sequences that worked - some modifier key + a number or letter choice. Next, start X-plane and open the Keyboard assignment tab and when you find the function to bind, use the new keypad for entry and confirm it is picked up in X-plane, showing the FN + combo in the entry window. Try to assign one or two, say FN+ num-pad 1, or FN + any alpha key, etc using the keyboard's assignment function/software first. This way you can assign any number of key combinations of FN + an alpha numeric key using your new keyboard's custom assignment software. Other modifiers like CMD, SHIFT etc may already be well used in X-plane. Look in X-plane first and find a modifier key that is not already used much in X-plane, like the FN key, found on most laptops and some desktops. I am not exactly an X-plane guru, but I do understand custom input devices from the computer's perspective, might have some useful advice on this. Your workflow may need some adjustment however.
I am grateful for any help or advise you can give. I do not need any axes mapped (but that could be useful)
If so, please could you give me any hints or a step by step into how to set this up I am sure the Kooletron keypad can be setup to be recognized as a joystick or device in the joystick tab in the configuration window (using vjoy, joystick gremlin etc?) My old brain is finding this a bit of a task!! and I would just like to be able to map the keys directly, (from Joystick tab) without all this hassle I intend to use this mainly for X-Camera (which has zillions of mappable commands).ġ: Finding 100 or so, unique key combinations.Ģ: Mapping these in keyboard tab of the configuration window.ģ: Mapping these in koolertron software to the keys.
